ABOUT TAUPO
Many
locations in and around Taupo are free to visit
and this makes Taupo the ideal place to explore.
Some of these locations include the famous Huka
Falls, the amazing Aratiatia Rapids (which fill
as the gates on the dam at the top of the rapids
are opened several times a day) and the spectacular
Craters of the Moon or the magic of Orakei
Korako, the Hidden Valley.
If the geothermal attractions around Taupo are
not enough then Rotorua is only 50 minutes away
by car. We
are also only a hour and a half from the Waitomo
Caves, just an hour from the ski fields of
Mt Ruapehu and just 90 minutes from Napier and
the Hawkes Bay. Taupo is the perfect place to
base yourself as you explore the central North
Island.
You are welcome to join us in our sports launch
for a spot of trout fishing on the lake, world
renowned for its wonderful fishing, or an afternoon's
water skiing during the summer months, or maybe
an hour's boating to view the famous Rock Carvings
and explore bays and attractions seen only from
the water.
Don't
forget all the rivers and streams that the Taupo
District boasts, including the world famous Tongariro
River. With some of the very best trout fishing
available anywhere in the world it is no wonder
the district is considered the trout fishing capital
of the world.
For those who are more adventurous you might
like to try sky diving or even a jump off the
Taupo
Bungy platform poised 47 meters above the
Waikato River. You could follow that with a jet
boat ride between the Huka Falls and the Aratiatia
Rapids with Huka
Jet. The world famous 1 day walk - Tongariro Crossing is a must for fit folk. We can arrange transport to and from "Ambleside"
If
you enjoy a more sedate lifestyle then you might
like to visit the Botanical Gardens, which are
within easy walking distance from Ambleside. Of
course there is the Lions walk, which follows
the shoreline of Lake Taupo for several kilometers,
or you could choose from any of the five challenging
and interesting golf courses in the area or simply
enjoy the spectacular scenery that is Taupo.
